Rio Rico "rich river" is a planned resort community located about 57 miles south of Tucson and is just 45 minutes from the Tucson International Airport or 10 minutes from the Nogales International Airport. The community's 39,000 acres roll gently down from the Santa Rita Mountains through the San Cayetano Foothills westward to the Santa Cruz River. The community had its beginnings in 1969 and has continued to grow at a steady pace. The Villages of Rio Rico's amenities include a 18 hole championship golf course, riding stables, swimming pool, recreation center, park, baseball park and several basketball, tennis, shuffleboard and racquetball courts. There is a commercial center containing a supermarket, restaurant and a variety of specialty shops. There are also 4 schools in the district with a High School that was built in 1994. Complete medical services are available in Nogales, including a hospital with 80 beds and 24-hour emergency service. The Rio Rico Country Club is one of the few courses selected in the United States as the host for the first stage of PGA Tour qualifier. This par 72, championship 18-hole course is one of Arizona's finest. Located in the high Sonoran Desert, the fairways are lined with Mesquite, Pine, Cottonwood, and Willow trees. With the elevation at 4000 feet, summer temperatures average 82.5 degrees which is 10-15 degrees cooler than Phoenix or Tucson with winter temperatures being comparable. Electricity, natural gas, telephone, water, sewer and cable TV are all within the subdivision. There are no liens or encumbrances on the lots, taxes are less than $40.00 per year and are paid current. There are no association dues.
